As a beauty school, we’re all about keeping up to date on trends at The Salon Professional Academy (TSPA), Huntsville. Since it’s the beginning of a new year, we’ve put together a few of our favorite trends that are set to take the world by storm in 2019. If you’re looking for hair inspiration to kick of the new year, here it is!

Locks of Lilac

Ranging from powder blue to cotton candy pink, pastel, feminine hair colors have been hot for the last few years. According to the experts, soft, delicate lilac will be the color for 2019. This it-girl shade works best on blondes and will take some work to maintain, but the results are worth it. The cool thing about this particular pastel shade is that it looks great as a vibrant, highly saturated light purple or a more subtle greyish-purple wash of color. It also looks stunning on any type of skin tone, whether you’re dark, olive-skinned, or super fair!

Accessories Galore

We saw the return of scrunchies, barrettes, hair pins, ribbons, and clips in 2018, and guess what? They’re here to stay in a big way! Runway shows for 2019 saw hair pins, bows, headbands, headscarves, and ribbons take the stage. Try this trend out for yourself this year with a few sparkly barrettes or a floral headscarf. You can also add a small velvet hair bow to a ponytail or half-up, half-down style for an accessorized look that’s more understated.

Straight and Glossy

The “glass hair” trend is going to be a big deal in 2019. By glass hair, we mean straight, sharp cuts that look perfectly smooth and glossy. By using a flat iron paired with a hair serum, shine spray, or polishing balm, creating the glass look is a no-brainer. For those who usually rock messy waves or a more voluminous, undone style, this is a great, sleek way to change things up.

New and Improved Top-Knot

No longer is the messy top-knot reserved for dirty hair or self-care days. An undone, relaxed bun is the perfect hairstyle for work, school, an evening out, or wherever your week takes you. Put your hair in ponytail first and twist it into a bun to create the “perfectly imperfect” look synonymous with the top-knot. Make sure to add dry shampoo or texturizing spray for extra volume. Want to go really crazy? Combine two trends in one and include accessories like a velvet ribbon, headband, or bedazzled barrettes!

Pumped Up Volume

So maybe straight and glossy hair isn’t your thing. That means it’s time to turn up the volume! Getting super-voluminous hair starts with how you wash it. Volumizing shampoos and conditioners create fuller hair that feels thicker without adding build-up. After you’ve washed your hair, create volume from the root by apply a volumizing product and using the blow dryer. From there, you can create volume by curling your hair, adding texturizing product, or teasing your hair at the root. If you’ve got long hair that’s all one length, switch it out for a textured, layered haircut. This is a foolproof, easy way to instantly create a more voluminous ‘do!
